what is the deal with “settling down?”
why does society tell us to aspire to “settle?”
moving to the suburbs, buying a house, following the exact same, contractually obligated mundane routine. but that is the goal, apparently…
threedays does not believe in settling down. no one deserves to settle. we believe in “planting your roots.”
our friend gigi once told us some places are like magnets. forever bringing us towards them with their invisible orbit. we fully agree.
“planting your roots” is finding love within a place; being so attracted to it that you dream of spending more time there. instead of looking at the cheapest flight to anywhere, you find yourself looking for flights a couple months early so you can get the best deal on that one specific place. and when the reality comes, you are all of a sudden renting an apartment there, going to the same shops, slowing down your life and adventures.
you end up buying a little car. you run into the same people on the street, some lovely, some not so. weekdays involve going to the market, or getting an ikea lunch with your neighbor, while you look for new kitchenware. planting your roots is about finding joy in the little things, as the aforementioned swedish furniture retailer puts it, “the wonderful everyday.”
this book is a culmination of a year of reflection in the places we have visited before. with collections of photos, stories, and local recipes, we hope that this book can serve as an inspiration for your next journey, or serve as the beginning of your next story. threedays to us is an opportunity to get out there, explore, find ourselves lost, or even find that perfect place that makes you want to plant your roots.
it doesn’t take much time. all you need to do is step out the door.
enjoy your weekend!
